The label is inscribed:
F.Breton, breveté de S.M.G.
M. la Duchesse d'Angoulème
Mirecourt 1818 Breton
Also branded Breton on the button.
An excellent quality well made Mirecourt violin in nice condition. Probably from the M.Laberte workshops who continued the Breton model after F. Breton, please note! the date is around 1920, the 1818 is a acknowledgment to the original F.Breton. The only imperfections are very minor varnish marks, a small insignificant ancient re-glued split upper right bout near to the fingerboard and a little varnish retouching to the back centre seam, otherwise in nice clean condition with good patina. The back measurement is: 14.1/16 (357 mm.) Setup with ebony fittings, Pirastro strings and supplied in a new case. Breton violins always have a balanced warm sweet tone with good volume. A nice honest violin!
