Marius DIDIER began his apprenticeship in 1886 at the age of thirteen in the Jerome Thibouville-Lamy workshops in Mirecourt, under the direction of Joseph CHEVRIER. A very clever luthier, DIDIER occupied all the positions in the workshop before finally joining "le Chantier des Artistes" ("the Artists' Workshop") where the best instruments were built. In 1925, upon the death of Victor CHEVRIER, Marius DIDIER established his own workshop in Mattaincourt. This superb example of his work was made in 1934 and numbered 158. It is without damage or repairs, just some small varnish imperfections. The length of the two piece back is 357 mm. finished in a rich plum/brown oil varnish, set up with ebony fittings, Dominant Pro strings and supplied in a new case. As well as the label the violin is branded inside in several places including on the side of the bass bar. An instrument with a fine classical tone with good balance and volume. Recommended!
